Beautiful People

Since July is CampNaNoWriMo, I’ve decided to join in on this month’s edition of the Beautiful People blog meme hosted by Cait and Sky. Let’s hit it!

How do you decide which project to work on?

I go by mood. I work on bits and pieces of projects depending on how I feel at the time.

How long does it usually take you to finish a project?

Ha. hahahahahahahahahahaha. For flipping ever. At least for my novels, anyway. For short stories, which I absolutely love to write, it could be about an hour or less.

Do you have any routines to put you in the writing mood?

I’ve actually made a playlist of orchestral music and soundtracks. When I’m distracted by my phone or the internet, I’ll start up this music and my fingers know to type. I recommend the Pacific Rim soundtrack if you’re looking for new writing music.

What time of day do you write best?

At night. Definitely at night. With my preschooler and toddler in the house, I barely have enough time to wash the dishes before the living room is destroyed. So, yeah. I gotta wait until the kiddos head to bed before I can get any work done.

Are there any authors you think you have a similar style to?

According to this website, I seem to write similarly to Raymond Chandler. So now I want to go read all of his novels.

Why did you start writing, and why do you keep writing?

I started writing when I was in grade school so I could get some stories out of my head and onto paper. I recently found a journal written by ten-year-old me, and it has as many short stories as it has diary-style entries.

Today I write to keep my creative juices flowing. I can’t always create a colorful piece of art, but stories can be written anywhere if I have a notebook and a pen or crayon.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve written?

Oh. Just my favorite character’s death scene. I’m still not over it.

Is there a project you want to tackle someday but you don’t feel ready yet?

Well, yes. A sci-fi retelling of Little Women with space dragons and cake.

What writing goals did you make for 2017 and how are they going?

My goal is to finish my Ten Year Novel. And I’ve… barely touched it this year.
