Hamster Princess: Whiskerella Blog Tour and Review

Don’t miss the action from last year when I introduced my kiddos to real life hamsters for Giant Trouble

About the Book:

Whiskerella
A funny, feminist twist on the Cinderella fairy tale for fans of fractured fairy tales

Princess Harriet Hamsterbone is not the kind of princess who enjoys fancy dresses or extravagant parties. Cliff-diving, fractions, and whacking people with swords are more her thing. So when she’s forced to attend a boring ball in honor of a visiting ambassador, Harriet is less than thrilled–until a bewitchingly beautiful stranger arrives. Who is she? And where did she come from? The mystery leads to a not-so-wicked stepsister, an incontinent lizard, and a fairy’s spell that’s really more of a curse. Luckily, Harriet knows a thing or two about curses…

Smart, funny, and filled with swashbuckling adventure, book five in the critically acclaimed Hamster Princess series is a hilariously re-told fairy tale for the modern age.

My Review:

Harriet Hamsterbone is probably my new favorite princess. Also, she’s probably the most Slytherin princess I’ve ever encountered (actually, maybe that’s why I love her?) and she never backs down from a fight. Her mother may think she’s a bit brash and not princessly, but Harriet is a true hero, never leaving anyone behind.

Ella doesn’t want to marry a prince, her stepsister (just one!) isn’t wicked, and her stepmother isn’t evil. Actually, her stepmom is so *not* evil that she works at the hospital just so she can help people!

Wait. If the stepmom and the stepsister aren’t evil, then who’s the villain of this story? Harriet and her best friend Wilbur have their suspicions about the fairy dust lying around…

I loved this new twist on the Cinderella story! I even made a visual aesthetic for the story on Twitter! (all images were found on Pinterest)
