It’s time to reflect and remember my 2016 reading year before I can fully embrace 2017. So without further ado, My 2016 End of Year Survey (questions and graphics by Jamie).

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t? Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

 3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?  Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I really thought this was going to be a thriller but was pleasantly surprised with an urban fantasy.

 4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?
A Darker Shade of Magic. I’ve gotten at least six people to credit me for convincing them to read it!

 5. Best series you started in 2016? Best Sequel of 2016? Best Series Ender of 2016?

• Started: Either Shades of Magic or The Lunar Chronicles
• Sequel: Either A Gathering of Shadows or A Court of Mist and Fury
• Ender: The Grisha Trilogy

 6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2016?

I’m going to say two authors. Victoria Schwab because I read three of her books, fell in love, and now own all of them. Leigh Bardugo because I read every single one of her published works in a single year.

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner was the first contemporary since childhood that made it to my favorites list.

 8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

A Gathering of Shadows by VE Schwab. I could not put that junk down!

 9. Book You Read In 2016 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year?

I will by rereading The Shades of Magic books before the third one comes out.

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2016?

This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp

11. Most memorable character of 2016?

Lila Bard from Shades of Magic. I’m planning tattoos based on her.

 12. Most beautifully written book read in 2016?

I had to think about this one, but I think my winner goes to This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab. It’s one of those books that doesn’t need to be a movie, because the world is already so beautifully crafted with words.

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2016?

For me, this will be A Darker Shade of Magic again. I don’t think it’ll be life changing for every one who reads it, but it was for me. This story gave me permission to be myself.

 14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2016 to finally read? 

Hands down, Cinder by Marissa Meyer. My best friend gave me this book for Christmas a few years ago and I kept putting it off. I can’t believe I was so stubborn! I loved this book!

 15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2016?

I was actually thinking about this quote from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell this morning:

To really be a nerd, she’s decided, you had to prefer fictional words to the real one.

19. Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship Of The Year

Phoebe and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils. I literally laughed out loud.

20. Favorite Book You Read in 2016 From An Author You’ve Read Previously

You know, I’m gonna half to say Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. JK Rowling was the only author I read in 2016 that I had read before.Wow!

21. Best Book You Read In 2016 That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else/Peer Pressure:

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. My best friend’s been telling me to read it for years.

Basically the ENTIRE Shades of Magic crew.

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner. I was sobbing.

27. Hidden Gem Of The Year?

Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson. I had no idea this series existed until a friend pointed it out in a bookstore! It’s a middle grade series where DisneyWorld comes to life at night!

Soul crushing? Have mentioned The Serpent King?

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2016?

I’m gonna go with Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff because it wasn’t written like a novel, but as a compilation of files.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?

When I finished The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, I slammed it shut, and threw it down the stairs.

1. New favorite book blog you discovered in 2016?

Oh, definitely Read at Midnight! Aentee inspired me to finally start my blog.

2. Favorite review that you wrote in 2016?

The first word of my review for Scarlet by Marissa Meyer is asdfghjkl; so it’s definitely the best.

3. Best discussion/non-review post you had on your blog?

I actually really like my latest post about my bookish goals.

4. Best event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events, memes, etc.)?

• Online: #ReadThemAllThon, which got me to start my blog
• In Person: This Savage Song premiere at Parnassus Books.

5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2016?

Finally starting!

6. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?

I hit several massive reading slumps that really discouraged me. But I ended up reading more this year than I have since middle school!

7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?

My first post was my most popular.

8. Post You Wished Got A Little More Love?

My preschool edition of back to school books.

9. Best bookish discovery (book related sites, book stores, etc.)?

All the things! I discovered bookstagram, book twitter, book blogging. Parnassus Books. Everything.

10.  Did you complete any reading challenges or goals that you had set for yourself at the beginning of this year?

I did! I kept up with my bookstagram and read (over) 50 books!

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo! I’m actually reading it right now.
